From the Director's Chair
Dear Friend,
Have you ever wondered what the Pantry is like? You probably have never had a need for a Pantry or any kind of "assistance." When the government shutdown, were you like all of us talking about what was happening and how so many people were affected?? Were you one of the many people trying to figure out how you could most effectively help the people caught in the crosshairs? Welcome to the club. It was not long before the Pantry phones were ringing and volunteers were answering how to get furloughed workers registered at the Pantry as quickly as possible.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary was on the phone trying to navigate how the crews could get access to food. Executive Officer Travis Roloff, of Coast Guard Station Chatham, worked tirelessly to take care of his crew. Meghan Farrell emailed from the National Seashore, asking not for herself but for her fellow workers. Then you started calling asking how to donate, where to donate and when to donate.
The Cape Cod community rallied very quickly and the Family Pantry put the word out that anyone affected by the shutdown was welcome.
The shutdown is over, thankfully, and you did your part. Isn't it great to live in a small, diverse community that can quickly pull together and do everything possible to take care of those who might need help?
For all of you who donate each year, and for those who donated during the shutdown, you made it possible for the Pantry to be able to ramp up in a time of crisis and ensure that nobody went hungry. Many families, who have never needed a Pantry, are better off because of your support.
Thank you for asking how you could help and for rising to the challenge!
Christine

Second Glance Thrift Boutique
The "Nordstroms of Thrift"
|
|
Eleven years ago the Family Pantry had an abundance of women's clothes that were straining the storage space. The solution was the beginning of the Second Glance Thrift Boutique. Fast forward to today, and the Boutique has moved to a beautiful location in West Harwich and is manned by over 100 peerless volunteers five days a week!
This mighty retail operation is critical to the financial stability of the Pantry. If you are a newlywed couple just starting out or an experienced "Thrifter," you will find what you need and maybe what you had never thought about needing.
Bargains include clothes, un-upholstered furniture, artwork, housewares, jewelry, shoes, bags, art deco, small appliances, linens and so much more. Please visit the Boutique at 265 Main Street (Rt 28) in West Harwich to discover another jewel on the Cape.
