Cape Cod Potters are a non-profit organization of artists with a common aim: to better understand the medium of clay by the sharing of knowledge. They operate as an educational, charitable organization through the dissemination of knowledge and experience. As part of their mission they put together an incredibly creative and innovative Soup Bowls for Hunger each year to benefit The Family Pantry of Cape Cod.
This is a perfect event for us because they have tied it so closely to our mission which is to provide food and clothing to those in need. The Potters donate their beautifully handcrafted bowls for the event which is held at Cape Cod Regional Technical School. The culinary students make two soups and rolls and serve this as a very simple dinner for the attendees as a reminder of what a meal can be like if you lack the financial resources to buy whatever you want at a grocery store. The Potters have also built relationships with many other community organizations who provide wonderful assistance with the event:
Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank’s Foundation underwrites the event
Cape Cod Paper donates paper bags which are used as placemats and then the bag to take your bowl home in
Girl Scout groups decorate the placemats and assist people in finding seats and carrying trays if needed
The Department of Youth Services helps with set up of the room
Trader Joes donates flowers which are placed on the tables in recyclable bottles and cans highlighting the pantry’s recycling revenue program.
The pantry is very grateful for the Cape Cod Potters’ continued support that goes back to a few years after the pantry opened in 1989.
