The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few or at least fewer than we need!

The Family Pantry has been successful in providing food to people in need for over 22 years and the primary reason for our success is the group of dedicated volunteers who now number over 300! And those are just the regular volunteers who work at the pantry, thrift shop or garden every week. There are at least another hundred people who work for us on a more occasional basis! If you know anyone who volunteers at the pantry please thank them for the tremendous support they are providing to our neighbors as they need a little help.
Now with 300 + volunteers you may find this hard to believe but we are looking for a few more volunteers! The specific areas that need help are:
1.       Warehouse bottles & cans crew. Recycled bottles and cans are a great revenue stream for us but it is labor intensive to collect them & then sort and bag them and we need some additional volunteers. This work is done Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays from 7AM (or 8 if 7 is too early) to 10AM. It is a fun group of people and it is educational (there is always a new beer that you have never heard of) as well as good exercise. You don’t need to work all three days – just working one will be a great help to us.
2.       Garden help will be needed this Fall as many of our student gardeners go back to school. We have work available Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays 9 to 12 as well as 1-3:30 on Tuesdays & Thursdays.   We also will have some special garden work days and would be glad to have you or your group join us for those days.
3.       The thrift shop needs people to iron, sort and arrange clothing for sale. The thrift shop is open Monday through Saturday and most people work either a morning or an afternoon the same day each week. This job does involve being on your feet and active during your shift.
If you are interested in any of these positions please call the pantry on 508-432-6519 or email pwatson@thefamilypantry.com for more information.
If you are not able to volunteer we always welcome financial support.
